Choosing the Right Enrollment Method for Your Learners

Use this guide to determine whether you should use courses or learning plans, and which enrollment method best fits your training needs.

Understanding Courses Vs Learning Plans

Before choosing an enrollment method, determine whether learners need a course or a learning plan.

Use A Course Use A Learning Plan
Learners only need one or a few course. Learners need multiple courses.
No course sequence is required. Course order or prerequisites matter.
Simple enrollment is preferred. A structured training path is needed.
Only mandatory training exists. Optional and mandatory training should be combined.

Using Manual Enrollment

Manual enrollment is best when working with a small number of learners or when assigning training on a case-by-case basis.

  • Individual learner assignments
  • Small groups of learners
  • One-time enrollments
  • Immediate enrollment needs

Using Self-Registration/ Self-Enrollment

Self-registration/self-enrollment allow learners to register and enroll themselves using enrollment links.  This is best when you can’t get a spreadsheet of the learners ahead of time, it’s an opt-in/optional training, or someone else like a coach or volunteer coordinator is actually distributing the link.

Using Bulk Enrollment

Bulk enrollment is the preferred option when assigning training to large numbers of learners.

  • Large onboarding groups
  • Institution-wide compliance training
  • Branch or department assignments

Using Automated Enrollment Rules

Automation rules allow future learners to be enrolled automatically based on predefined criteria such as groups, branches, or user profile information.
